Morgan Stanley Research surveyed more than 700 of our summer interns in the US and Europe for some hot takes on trends across industries and themes. Their answers reveal what’s shaping the next generation.
Their career comes first. 89% of US interns rank it as their top priority, up from 86% last year. Relationships and travel follow next, while starting a family and saving for retirement rank lower.
AI use is booming. 96% use it at least occasionally, and daily use has more than doubled since last year.
And while young professionals see AI as a time-saving tool, many say it still needs improvement and question its accuracy.
Humanoid robots? Most interns believe humanoids will be viable and replace many human jobs.
And interest in owning a humanoid is high—especially among men, with 70% expressing interest compared to 50% of women.
Crypto adoption is slow but steady. Only 26% say they’re interested and 18% own or use crypto.
Technology is everywhere but nearly half of European interns say it’s hurting their wellbeing, up sharply from last year.
Meanwhile, their spending on apparel has increased while footwear holds steady. When it comes to cars, hybrids lead the pack in the U.S. and in Europe.
With rising prices, interns say they’d cut dining out first, then clothes and travel. But 14% say they wouldn’t cut back at all.
From career goals to tech habits, the 2025 summer intern class is shaping the future with insights that go beyond hot takes.
